Matam

Matam (Matai Sisarich), an emerging 20-year-old artist born in New Zealand and currently based on the Sunshine Coast, is in his third year at the Queensland College of the Arts. As someone who is dyslexic, Matam engages with art as a form of communication, experimenting with mixed media or oil paint, he creates abstract portraiture, delving into themes of personal identity and nostalgia through recognizable imagery inspired by pop culture, street culture, and comics. Since 2022, Matai has started working on large-scale mural projects, including three of his own murals, assisting in three more through Griffith’s Public Art program and live painting events. Additionally, he has started publicly exhibiting his work within local Brisbane based art events.
