Be Exhibition Ready! Workshop

This presentation workshop will cover the logistics of becoming exhibition ready, you will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced and respected artist and curator. Your facilitator will walk you through, and sharpen your ability to produce exhibition-ready artwork. You will leave this workshop full of new ideas and information to jumpstart your new arts career. This workshop will offer a step by step how-to guide when preparing for an exhibition.

Creating Collage Workshop

In this workshop you will learn about and create your own collage. Collage has been used in varying forms of art for hundreds of years, and is now also found in street art (often called “cut-out paste-up”), and involves any combination of cutting, pasting and

drawing. Street art is part of an independent attitude and movement of creative expression, and collage is an important element of this community, capturing the attitudes and creative work through the lens of the authors. All materials supplied.

Street Art Cycling Tour

BSAF is making it easy to see some of the latest and greatest murals of Brisbane with Street Art Cycling Tours! 

Led by Brisbane street artist Antonio Lazurus, you’ll be taken on a guided ride along Brisbane’s beautiful bike paths – exploring new works from BSAF 2023 and the iconic murals of past years. Journeying through the CBD, and outer Brisbane suburbs, Lazurus will give you the rundown of the artists and inspirations behind these great works. Leave the lycra at home for this leisurely afternoon – this workshop welcomes all ages and levels of fitness to enjoy Brisbane’s scenery and the talents of its many artists.

Aerosol Masterclass

An experienced aerosol artist will guide your group through a collaborative wall work, introducing the team to marking, spraying, and conceptual techniques. Beginner patrons will leave with a more comprehensive knowledge of the skills required to complete a mural work, while more experienced attendees will have the opportunity to improve their technique. Explore the range of cans on the market, the variety of caps, working with various surfaces, and much more.

Digital Illustration Workshop

Take your digital illustrative details to the next level with local Brisbane Artists. You’ll be using your own drawing device. Spend two hours with an experienced artist learning how to draw hair, skin tones, and all the finer details in illustration. A perfect class for those who already draw, and illustrators wanting to step it up a notch. At the end of class, you will have created your own piece of artwork to share online.

NOTE: Patrons must supply their own digital drawing device.

Jam Wall

Open during Superordinary’s opening hours – this wall will be your canvas. Come and try out various art techniques for free in this communal art space. Be inspired by others and even collaborate to create whatever you desire. This Jam Wall will allow the general public to use a wall in the outdoor area of Superordinary for temporary practice. Artwork is ephemeral and will be painted over regularly.

Fundamentals of Funk & Disco and their legacy on modern streetdance and DJing. Join internationally renowned DJ Seb One (MOPTOP Family, SYD/HK) as he examines how over 4 decades of modern streetdance have been shaped from the past, beginning with the Godfather of Soul James Brown’s music and how today’s dancers and DJs can leverage this knowledge to improve their artistic practice.

Archie Burnett: Whacking

Whacking is a Dance popularised on the west coast of America in LA, California in the 70s. Get down with the connection and the feeling of music that makes you move, groove and just downright get into it! So come as you are.

Archie Burnett, first founding father of the New York City based House of Ninja, has been a well-respected force in the underground dance world for over 40 years. As a master of Whacking, Voguing, Hustle and many other styles, he is the catalyst for the European Vogue scene that exists today. Burnett moves with profound clarity and striking geometric body-lines. 

Burnett is an avid weightlifter and graphic artist and splits his time between work, family, clubs and teaching House dance at NYCs Peridance. He also teaches worldwide in countries including Germany, Austria, Poland, Belgium, France, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy, Japan, Brazil and a host of other countries. Burnett has given lectures/demonstrations and been on scholarly panels at Yale University, Duke University, Harvard University, New York University and Florida State University. 

Burnett’s bodies of work range from music videos to features in magazines like Dance Ink and the former Village Voice dance section to performance coaching for up-and-coming recording artists. He is featured in the documentary Check Your Body at the Door, which chronicles the lives and lifestyles of six remarkable underground House dancers in New York City during the golden decade of the 1990s. Burnett also performs for concert-dance choreographers Doug Elkins, David Neumann and Cori Olinghouse and he has shown his own work at Dance Theatre Workshop, PS122, Dancespace, Dixon Place, 92nd Street Y, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Theatre Surenes Jean Vilar in Paris.
