International Artist Talk

With international borders now opening after three years we are excited to again welcome significant international artists to the BSAF Program. Join our diverse international artists from the BSAF 2023 program in an intimate panel discussion about their creative careers, their art practice and their experiences around the globe. Explore how they navigate global changes as an artist and express themselves in times of uncertainty. All are invited to attend, ask questions, and obtain insight into the lives of the artists leading the way for public art and street art around the world.

Artificial Intelligence x Art

Exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and art, this discussion centres around the ways in which AI is transforming and evolving the creative world, from generating new art forms to enhancing existing ones. The panellists examine the potential for AI to revolutionise the creative process, providing new tools and techniques for artists to explore and experiment with. They also discuss the ethical considerations that come with integrating AI into the art world, such as issues of authorship, ownership, and authenticity.

INTRODUCTION TO STENCILS

A key practice within the street art world, stencils are one of the most accessible ways to get comfortable with spray cans and walls. Whether for a quick spray, Warhol-esque pop art, or multi layered posterized pieces, stenciling is as useful as it is fun. In this workshop, a recognised street artist will guide classes through the do’s and don’ts of stencil design, stencil creation, and the array of ways they can be used.
NOTE: Patrons under 15 year old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

GRAFFITI WRITING WORKSHOP

The art of graffiti writing is where many of Brisbane’s, and the world’s, greatest street artists began. Join an experienced artist to explore this OG form of modern public art and create your own marker-based masterpiece of graffiti style writing. All materials supplied.

JAM WALL

Open during Superordinary’s opening hours – this wall will be your canvas. Come and try out various art techniques for free on this communal art space. Be inspired by others and even collaborate to create whatever you desire. This Jam Wall will allow the general public to use a wall in the outdoor area of Superordinary for temporary practice. Artwork is ephemeral and will be painted over regularly.
NOTE: BYO paint and materials.

LINO PRINTING WORKSHOP

Guided by a visual art professional, patrons will be led through the design and technical principles required to produce a lino-print stamp. The stamp can be applied with a number of available colours to create takehome ‘Pop’ artworks. Shared art materials are supplied for use.

MC/FREESTYLING WORKSHOP

Run by NO1NETWORK, this educational workshop will give you all the tools you need to learn MCing and freestyling. Covering topics including writing lyrics, how to practice rhyming, how to prepare for a show, and more. This panel style workshop will allow patrons to ask questions and learn from professionals.

SLAP UP WORKSHOP: STICKER ART

In this workshop you will learn the art of Slap Ups. Participants will be guided through a number of activities in image making and manipulation through to creating and Slapping Up on our pop up Graf wall. Slap Ups (AKA Sticker Art) have played an important role in street art culture as a way to cross pollinate between mediums and creative movements. Through techniques such as collage and image manipulation, Slap-Ups have provided a platform for street artists to create unique imagery that attempts to subvert the commercial nature of mass media. Slap Up artists often trade their work with one another in order to expand the reach and scope of distribution within their communities. An artist’s stickers may be distributed through this worldwide network and end up in places they themselves have never traveled to.

AEROSOL MASTERCLASS

An experienced aerosol artist will guide your group through a collaborative wall work, introducing the team to marking, spraying, and conceptual techniques. Beginner patrons will leave with a more comprehensive knowledge of the skills required to complete a mural work, while more experienced attendees will have the opportunity to improve their technique. Explore the range of cans on the market, the variety of caps, working with various surfaces, and much more.
