Art Has No Gender

BSAF is committed to providing a platform for a diversity of artists and support minorities to express themselves within the industry. Art Has No Gender is an opportunity to engage with female or non-binary identifying artists, producers, performers and all round creatives in an afternoon of conversation.
From 3pm, we encourage you to join in a discussion with local powerhouse female identifying and non-binary creatives who, despite breaking boundaries and enjoying widespread success, face unique experiences and challenges within the industry. Then, enjoy a few drinks and get to know your fellow professionals and hobbyists alike to the backdrop of our resident DJ.

Scribble Slam

Watch as two street artists go head-to-head to create a large wall artwork in just 90 minutes! The battling artists can use whichever medium they like to create their unique artwork – but there’s a twist – they must respond to a mystery theme given to them just before the timer begins!
The iconic art battle will be hosted twice in Brisbane during the festival, first at Ric’s Backyard on May 3 and then at Toombul Centre’s newest precinct on May 15. Each night will be accompanied by the sweet beats of our resident DJ and half-time sessions from Brisbane’s underground musos. Join the diverse crowd of spectators, vote for your favourite to win, and gain a unique perspective into these artists’ creative processes. Check out our website for each night’s line-up of talented guest artists and exciting performers.

Festival Launch Party

The BSAF Launch Party will celebrate transformation and collaboration as we open up our CBD festival hub, Superordinary, to the world. Our inner city pop-up arts venue will alight with the energy of the Brisbane arts community as visual artists, musicians and performers come together to create an experience to delight the senses.
Artworks and installations from ‘Within These Walls’ will wind through the staircase of our multi-story experience, guiding you from the venue beneath to the exhibition atop. Swing by the bar on the ground floor and catch some of Brisbane’s hottest up and coming bands, have a boogie at the electronic stage, check out some live virtual graffiti with Kingspray, and be enticed by eclectic roving performances throughout the building. For the night, Superordinary is yours to enjoy.
The Festival Launch Party is a chance to celebrate. BSAF’s desire to showcase the public art and street art culture of Brisbane in 2020 is keener than ever, as we take on more walls with more artists than ever before. Come and play a part in the future of Brisbane art.

Within These Walls Exhibition

Within These Walls is a group showcase of exhibitable works by local street artists and artists with connections to the Brisbane Street Art scene. The exhibition will open in conjunction with the Festival Launch Party on May 2, and will be open at scheduled times for viewing throughout the festival period of May 2 – 17. Featuring paintings, photographs, drawings, sketches and mixed medium artworks, this exhibition will open your eyes to the wealth and diversity of artistic talent throughout Brisbane.
All works will be available for purchase during the opening and viewing times, so you can take home that eye-catching piece and support the Brisbane arts scene!

IPSWICH: The Switch Up Street Party

BSAF likes to make an impact wherever it lands, but sometimes art alone leaves wanting. Come join us at the Switch Up Street Party to celebrate the Ipswich Program and experience the collaborative, inspiring energy on which BSAF is founded. Get an in depth perspective from the Ipswich artists as they discuss their works in a panel talk, then watch them battle it out in a live Scribble Slam street art battle while you enjoy some delicious food and drinks. Immerse yourself in this city laneway experience as we welcome some of our favorite local bands and DJs to the stage, while roving performers wind their way through the crowd.

Festival Closing Party

Second only to the artworks themselves, the most prevailing results of each Brisbane Street Art Festival are the connections it fosters. Street art connects cultures from around the world through a shared love for the medium, and we are so lucky to have had Brisbane rise as an annual meeting place for the community we treasure.
At the BSAF Closing Party, we’ll be taking over Felons Brewing to celebrate these connections and share highlights from across the festival, as well as getting our fill of the BSAF x Felons collaboration beer. Join us for a riverside evening of entertainment with live painting, DJs and live bands curated by Jazz House. Meet the artists who bought to life the freshest murals across the city and help us push the boat out on a gargantuan two weeks of BSAF.

Pseudo Silk

Silk screen printing is a truly timeless printmaking technique, as relevant today as it was a thousand years ago. Where silk mesh was once instrumental in the print process, it’s evolved through a blend of technological advances and contemporary creativity.
The Print Bar & Brisbane Street Art Festival present Pseudo Silk; a multi-faceted celebration of silk screen printing, showcasing the work and creative processes of local printmakers, along with a live mural painting by Zookeeper, live screen-printing, local DJs, projec- tions and a print market.
