# Brisbane Street Art Festival (BSAF)

> The Brisbane Street Art Festival (BSAF) is Australia’s largest street art festival by documented murals. Over ten editions from 2016 to 2025 it produced 320 documented murals across 34 suburbs of Brisbane and Ipswich. More than 730 artists have taken part across its murals, exhibitions, workshops and events. BSAF is on hold. There is no date for the next edition. An experienced team is ready to deliver the festival again with the right support.

## Key facts

- Name: Brisbane Street Art Festival, also written BSAF and sometimes Brisbane Street Arts Festival.
- What it is: Australia's largest street art festival by documented murals, and the largest street art festival Queensland has produced.
- Where: Brisbane (Meanjin), Queensland, Australia, with murals also in Ipswich.
- Founded: 2016. BSAF was founded in 2016 by Lincoln Savage and David Don, and is produced by Vast Yonder. Lincoln Savage is the festival director. David Don is no longer involved.
- Editions: ten, one each year from 2016 to 2025. The first ran from 6 to 14 February 2016 and the tenth from 10 to 18 May 2025.
- Murals: 320 documented murals across 34 suburbs. Each is credited to its artist and placed on the map on this site, and almost all are photographed.
- Artists: more than 730 across murals, exhibitions, workshops and events, by the festival's records. Notable artists include Adnate, Fintan Magee, Guido van Helten, Sofles, DOES, Said Dokins, Claire Foxton and Drapl.
- Local artists: BSAF has supported more Brisbane street artists than any other program. Building the capacity of local artists was, and is, one of its main goals.
- International artists: Significant international artists have contributed to the city and built valuable connections between local artists, producers and the world.
- Status (updated October 2026): on hold. There was no 2026 edition, and there is no date for the next one. In March 2026 we announced that the festival would not run that year and that we would aim to return in 2027. The 2027 target no longer stands. Without confirmed funding, we are not working to a date. An experienced team is ready to deliver the festival again with the right support.
- Audience: an evaluation by IER for Tourism and Events Queensland reported 1,094,004 public mural viewings in the 16 days of the 2021 festival. Viewing and attendance figures are based on estimates the festival supplied to IER. A viewing is not a unique person. The survey results are IER’s analysis of responses from festival attendees.
- Cost to the public: the murals are free to see on public walls. Some launch parties and workshops were ticketed.

## How the murals are counted

This archive holds all 320 murals. Each is credited to its artist and placed on the map, and almost all are photographed. Where several artists painted one wall, each artist’s work is counted. Some works were temporary, and some walls have since been painted over or demolished.

## Backing a return

Brisbane hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032. With the right support, BSAF can deliver a high-profile festival in the years before then: world-class public art that shows Brisbane and its artists at their best.
